# 1.0 Getting Started

bitSmiley Protocol

bitSmiley is a fully decentralized stablecoin protocol that enables anyone to create over-collateralized stablecoins, bitUSD, by using Bitcoin as collateral. It currently supports the generation of bitUSD on the Bitcoin mainnet, various Bitcoin Layer 2 networks (bitLayer, Merlin),  SUI and Zeta, offering seamless access across multiple ecosystems.

The Value of bitUSD

bitUSD is a decentralized stablecoin issued by the bitSmiley protocol, designed to maintain a soft peg of 1:1 with the US dollar. It features decentralization and transparent issuance and is currently the largest decentralized stablecoin protocol in the BTC ecosystem. By using collateral such as BTC and SUI, bitUSD ensures value stability through over-collateralization and automatic supply adjustments.
